Highlight of the Week
Jerry: Reaching the virtual halfway point of the AT at the Appalachian Trail Conservancy office in Harpers Ferry, WV. Our picture was taken officially as thru hikers number 457 and 458 for their 2014 album.
Bennett: Staying at the Mountain Home Cabbin B&B with Mio, Johnny Utah, and Buzz. Was a lovely place to relax and read ‘Wild’ with some coffee. Loved the main house tour and can’t wait to return to see it in four years when it’s complete!
Karen: Spending the weekend in Blue Ridge — the weather during the day was gorgeous and there was a great thunderstorm overnight; the neighbors were quiet; and I got to read and rest and spend time with my mom.
Lowlight of the Week
Jerry: Hiking solo out of Harpers Ferry without Tandem, who was participating in the Four State Challenge.
Bennett: Stressing about money and budgeting after the Shenandoah National Park (aka basically a theme park) took a lot of our funds.
Karen: Taking three hours to get to Blue Ridge in Friday afternoon traffic after being delayed getting out of town.
Memory of the Week
Jerry: Staying at the Mountain Home B&B hostel and being hosted by Scott Jenkins, who is a former Boy Scout leader. He was a great host, with transportation into Front Royal, great beds, and breakfast. The visit was topped off with a top-floor-to-spooky-basement tour of the 1840’s era house that he is having renovated.
Bennett: Stopping at the Horseshoe Curve to enjoy some coffee and sodas with Johnny Utah, Buzz, and Mio, before buying a few beers and hiking the few miles to finally cross over 1000 miles!! Was also awesome finally leaving Virginia behind to enter West Virginia.
Karen: Spending a gorgeous evening catching up with a good friend on her gorgeous new porch.
